The Differences Between Lubricants
How many of us have used some type of lubricant in one way or another for sexual
experiences? I am sure there have several of you out there that have used them
not knowing that there are differences in lubricants you find on the market
today. Did you know that offering a good variety of
Lubricants is as
important as offering a variety of toys? The major categories of lubricants
consist of water-based, silicone-based and hybrid formulas. There are many to
choose from and to help you get started and be more informed I will shed some
light on the subject for you.
Now your
Water Based Lubricant formulas are very compatible with All toy material
types, washes with away with mild soap and water quickly, offers a variety of
lubricants for flavors, stimulating, pleasing, natural etc., can be re-activated
by adding some water and is the most commonly used and manufactured lubricant
out there.
Then you have your
Silicone
Based Lubricants which are NOT compatible with other silicone materials.
Although the silicone-based lubricants NEVER feel sticky, it feels like an oil
and is much safer to use inside of the body. (PLEASE NOTE- it may be possible
for oils to trigger an infection when used vaginally and oils are Not compatible
with rubber or latex) Silicone lubricants can also be used for an erotic all
over the body, body massage.
Now there is such a thing called the hybrid formula, believe it or not. The
hybrid formula has a sensual creamy consistency. This is a water-based lubricant
with a touch of silicone. This product is a unique water-based lube that does
NOT feel sticky. It leaves the skin feeling silky smooth when dry. The hybrid
lubricant often hydrates, protects and moisturizes the skin. Although this is
slippery, it is still thin enough to feel all the sensations you would normally
feel. This product is compatible with latex, rubber, glass, metal, and plastic
materials but is not suggested to be used with most silicone products.
Thick Lubricants
· Stays on the surface of the skin longer.
· Provides more “cushion “feeling.
· Reduces friction and sensation.
· Ideal for anal penetration.
Thin Lubricants
· Allows people to feel more sensation without friction.
· Perfect for someone who wants a” kick start “and then their own lubrication
takes over.
· Often referred to as “woman’s” formula ( who generally prefer to feel more
sensation during penetration)
Flavored
Lubricants
· Designed to enhance love making.
· Great to use with flavored condoms.
· Can be used for oral play or penetration.
Stimulating
Lubricants

· Often include active ingredients like menthol that increases blood flow and
awakens the nerve endings.
Glycerin Free Lubricants
· Glycerin, which is a more common ingredient in most water-based lubes, is a
form of sugar. A growing number of women have noticed that glycerin-based
products trigger yeast infections or vaginal irritations.
Paraben-Free Lubricants:
· Parabens are a common preservative found in most beauty products, but some
women develop sensitivity toward petrochemicals in the form of skin irritations.
Most products with Paraben are banned in Europe.
Natural/Organic Lubricants
· A number of customers prefer products that are made with all natural or
organic ingredients.
· There are many different definitions of “natural”, so be sure to read the
bottles very carefully.
